Far West – Canoes & rafts

Canoes and rafts were an essential mean of locomotion in the rivers of North America. I´ve got a few in my collection.

Britains

The Britains canoe is very carefully moulded, showing a wood frame to support the animal skins.

This canoe was moulded in a strange blue colour. It has a piece of cargo and two black weights that helped to stabilise the model in water.

This raft was produced between 1972 and 1976, and was reintroduced between 1995 and 1998. The cowboys were numbers 688 and 687 according to Peter Cole book on Britains history (bibliography).

Plasty

The canoe of this German Company is very long with 20 cm.

Along with two Indians two pieces of cargo are also included. These are loose and so could be easily lost.

Timpo

The Timpo canoes look as a simplified version of Britains. The cargo element includes a rifle and sort of pan. The explorer is of the swoppet type.

The Indians that paddle this canoe only differ in colour.

Timpo raft is very nice with the use of barrels. However it has a very small amount of cargo.

The use of a large tree trunk to travel in a river seems to be a nice and practical option. However it reality it could be very unstable.
